SFG Celebrates Earth Week

Dear ASFG Community,

Every year ASFG Green supports the community in celebrating Earth Week to reinforce our commitment as environmental stewards. This year, we are focusing our efforts on encouraging our community to take a one-week carbon cleanse during the week of April 7 - 11. A carbon cleanse implies that we will change our behaviors to reduce our impact on global warming. This week is a chance for us to see what a difference low-impact living can have on our quality of life.

On campus, staff and students have been encouraged to make a “low impact” commitment to reduce their footprint, exploring such broad topics as transportation, energy, food, water, and consumption. Every grade level will focus their curriculum to include environmental responsibility during Earth Week. To help support our studies, we are excited to welcome back our alumni: Elias Campollo (class of 2010), who will work with 6th grade teachers and students to support the Komos Foundation, and Francisco Cuevas (class of 2006), who will work with 2nd grade teachers and students to support neighborhood irrigation. We encourage you to speak to your child about a way in which you could extend environmental responsibility to your home.

In addition, we have opportunities that extend outside our classroom walls.

  • Our technology department has organized an opportunity for you. Bring your electronic waste to school, where we will support proper recycling. We will have containers for: laptops, tablets & cell phones, accessories (headphones, mouse, webcam, speakers), cables & chargers, and alkaline batteries. Incom Soluciones, SA DE CV will help us to be responsible. The receptacles are found on the basketball courts, near Gate 3.

  • Our Warrior Parent Academy will host a family friendly movie night. We will show

    The Lorax

on a big screen in English with Spanish subtitles. Come in

    pajamas

     and bring your

    stuffed animals, pillows, blanket

    , and

    reusable water bottle!

We will have snacks for sale (popcorn, pizza, flavored water, cookies). Proceeds will go to the drama department. When the movie finishes we have a

    surprise activity

organized by our Parent Green Team.
