Hello!I look forward to meeting you as my family and I make the transition to living in this beautiful city. My partner, Rick and my children Hudson (6) and Matilda (4) are thrilled to be part of the community.
It is an exciting time to be a part of ASFG knowing we continuously strive to serve our students, families, the community and our staff with excellence. As an educator anchored by strong beliefs in anti-racism and social justice, the American School Foundation of Guadalajara’s vision to guide learners to be change agents of bettering our world fully aligns with my educational philosophy and life long work.
Education and service to the community were values instilled in me from early on. My passion for serving others led me to the understanding that in order to serve, you must understand about the people you live and learn with and always keep asking questions. That being said, as I move from the role of an urban district building principal to a position in a private American School in Guadalajara, I realize the transition requires me to understand the roles and responsibilities of the Principal within this context, as well as hold true to ASFG core values and my own guiding principles.
I hold a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Edgewood College; an MS Ed in Leadership from Portland State University; and a BS in Spanish & Elementary Ed from the University of Wisconsin Madison. My experiences have taken me to the American Embassy School in New Delhi, India teaching Humanities and Spanish; and to Portland, Oregon in Middle School Dual Language Humanities. I have also served as an Instructional Coach and Bilingual Resource Teacher in Madison, Wisconsin. Most recently, I served as the Elementary School Principal at Midvale Elementary School, Madison, WI.
As the new ES school leader, I hope that I can continue to build upon the strong foundation of leadership that the administration has built, and infuse some of my expertise and experience in the change process.
Sincerely,
Rebecca Galvan
