message to the community regarding child protection

Dear ASFG Community,

At the American School Foundation of Guadalajara, ensuring the safety and well-being of our students is a top priority. We want to share our ongoing efforts to protect children's rights and support positive parenting. This includes providing important information about related laws, including those concerning corporal punishment.

Each year, our staff undergoes child protection training that covers international, federal, and state laws. In addition, we have an extensive child protection policy, protocol and a dedicated task force to address suspected cases of sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse and neglect towards children and adolescents. Our entire staff is well-prepared to identify, respond to and report cases of suspected abuse.

We believe it’s essential for parents to be aware of the international and national laws and policies that protect children and adolescents, including:

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights

The Convention on the Rights of the Child

Mexican Constitution (Article 4)

General Law of the Rights of Children and Adolescents

State Law of the Rights of Children and Adolescents

The state law in Jalisco prohibits any form of corporal punishment of minors such as hitting, hitting with an object, spanking, imposing strict penalties for someone who has legal custody of a minor and uses physical force affecting his or her physical or psychological integrity.

We encourage all families to engage in positive parenting practices that are respectful and conducive to children’s healthy development.

Our school counselors are here to offer resources and support for any questions you may have on positive parenting. Please feel free to reach out.

Thank you for partnering with us in creating a safe and supportive environment for all students.

Sincerely,

David C. McGrath
