Drinking Fountains and Actions by ASFG for the High Temperature Season

Dear Community,

We would like to share some important information with you about the school drinking fountains and actions taken by the school during this high temperature season in our city.

Drinking Fountains

During these high temperatures it’s important to maintain hydration and we would like to confirm that the water from the school drinking fountains is suitable for human consumption and that regular maintenance is given to the fountains.

Filtering Process: The water from the drinking fountains passes through a filtration system composed of a solid filter, activated carbon filter, and ultraviolet lamps, making it suitable for human consumption. These filters have a replacement cycle of every six months or sooner when necessary.

Maintenance: As part of the maintenance plan, the pressure, temperature, and overall operation of each water fountain are periodically checked (weekly and monthly as needed). Additionally, each month, the water from the fountains is analyzed by an external company called Amycsa.  They take samples from each drinking fountain and evaluate them according to NOM-201-SSA1-2015 regarding water and ice for human consumption.

Classroom Ventilation

In April, we began analyzing how to adapt the classrooms to the high temperatures in our city. To this date several classrooms in the elementary school and middle school have been equipped with water-based air coolers and wall fans, and we  will be providing this equipment for the remaining classrooms by the week of May 20-24. The feedback from teachers and students has been positive, and we share some of their comments below:

  • These units generate fresh air, unlike regular fans which only circulate hot air.

  • Good air circulation.

  • The overall classroom environment has significantly improved compared to the previous conditions.

We will continue to monitor temperatures and proper ventilation of the classrooms as well as the water quality analyses of the fountains. These measures consider the care of our environment, which our community, especially our students, are always attentive to.

We appreciate the teamwork that has been carried out to address these issues.
