Low Impact Earth Week Community Letter 2024

Dear ASFG Community,

Every year ASFG Green supports the community in celebrating Earth Week to reinforce our commitment as environmental stewards. This year, we are focusing our efforts on encouraging our community to take a one-week carbon cleanse during the week of April 22-27. A carbon cleanse implies that we will change our behaviors to reduce our impact on global warming.  This week is a chance for us to see what a difference low-impact living can have on our quality of life.

On campus, staff and students have been encouraged to make a “low impact” commitment to reduce their footprint, exploring such broad topics as transportation, energy, food, water, and consumption. We encourage you to speak to your child about a way in which you could extend these challenges to your home.

Please support us in promoting environmental stewardship:

Benefits & Precautions when Making Medicinal T

    eas

with Heike Myers, an ASFG mom and licensed pharmacist, having received her Master’s in Pharmacy from the University of Tübingen in Tübingen, Germany.

Prior to what we know today as “modern medicine,” many of today’s well-known natural forms of healing, such as homeopathy and anthroposophy, were first discovered in Germany and continue to be offered today as a complimentary part of that country’s modern pharmaceutical approach to treating illness and maintaining one’s health.

When Heike arrived in Mexico three years ago, she was intrigued by the fact that people in our country share similar attitudes toward natural forms of healing and that many Mexicans today continue to use herbs and plants as a complement to modern medicine.

To expand on the cross-cultural connection between Heike’s native Germany and her newly adopted home, Heike will discuss the benefits and precautions of medicinal plants and demonstrate how to make a medicinal herbal tea which is used in Germany to improve symptoms associated with the common cold and coughing.

This workshop (free of charge) is offered in English on Thursday, April 25th from 8:10 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. in the high school cafeteria.
